The first Firefox OS smartphone, ‘ZTE Open’ has been released finally. This smartphone was announced in February of this year. If you have been waiting for it eagerly since its announcement, then I believe that the news of its release has brought smile and excitement in you, right?
ZTE Open is lower-end device and does not have anything ‘wow’ in it, except from its OS, the Firefox OS. In fact, the OS is the reason why this smartphone’s release has become headline of tech world. This smartphone is currently available in Spain. Telefonica is the mobile carrier selling it over there.

In the hardware aspect, the outer look of this smartphone is not so impressive, but not bad as well. The curvy edges make this smartphone attractive. Its dimensions are 114 x 62 x 12.5 mm. This smartphone is aimed at people who are not so concerned about the look and don’t demand very high-end features. Means, it’s aimed at people who are new to smartphones.
In the display part, this smartphone has 3.5-inch TFT capacitive touchscreen that offers 320 x 480 pixels resolution, and has 165 ppi pixel density. The smartphone is quite good in processing speed. Wreath for smooth performance goes to Qualcomm MSM7225A Snapdragon Chipset and 1.0GHz Cortex-A5 processor that are there in this smartphone. The operating system is Firefox OS. We’re not sure if the OS will offer good experience to you or not, as this is first smartphone based on it. But as per Mozilla’s executives, this smartphone is ‘first chapter’ of their project, which they hope to go long. These words clearly speak about the hard work that Mozilla team has put in its OS, and is still doing so. Therefore, Firefox OS will most likely impress all of us.
Unlike most of smartphones getting launched nowadays, the ZTE Open is the smartphone with single camera, which is of 3.15MP with 2048×1536 pixels. Geo-tagging is the feature that is part of this camera. Apart from good quality picture-clicking, the camera is capable of recording videos of decent quality.
In the memory-side, ZTE Open has 512 MB ROM and 256MB RAM. Support of microSD card of up to 32GB is part of its feature-set. The smartphone is powered by Li-Ion 1200mAh battery.
ZTE Open Price & Availability:
Like I said before, the ZTE Open is up for sale in Spain through mobile carrier Telefonica. The price tag is 69 euros (about $90). This smartphone will be hitting several Latin American countries, anytime soon.
