It’s real, Google has teamed up with Nestle to name the next version of Android, which is Kit Kat 4.4 (not 5.0 Key Lime Pie, as many were expecting). Yes, you heard it right. Today, Google put the break on rumors of Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie and revealed that next version will be called Kit Kat, which is inspired from the Nestlé’s chocolate brand.
Google has not revealed features of the Android 4.4 yet but they published a page where you can briefly see the evolution of the Android versions, from Android Cupcake (1.5), Donut (1.6), Eclair ( 2.0), Froyo (2.2), Gingerbread (2.3) ,Honeycomb (3.0), Ice Cream Sandwich (4.0) and Jelly Bean (4.1), to the most recent: KitKat (4.4).
According to Sundar Pichai, who leads the Android project and Google Chrome, the Android device activations worldwide have crossed the milestone of one billion devices. Here’s what Sundar Pichai’s tweet reads, “We now have over 1 Billion Android activations and hope this guy in front of the building keeps that momentum going” with a picture of Google Kit Kat statue.
Pichai also revealed how good Android KitKat statue looks in the famous garden of Google, where other figures are also situated that refer to the different versions of the software.
Regarding the Android KitKat promotional campaign, a spokesman for Google said that “[in the agreement] there was no exchange of money. We are excited to team up with Nestlé and launch global campaign for Android KitKat. Over 50 million special Android KitKat bars will be available in 19 countries for the promotion.
Android 4.4 Kit Kat Release Date:
Google is likely to release the Android 4.4 Kit Kat later this year. However, there is no official word on its release date or the devices that will support it yet. But if you own any of the recently launched phones like Galaxy S4, HTC One, Xperia Z or LG G2, you’ll most likely receive the update. It’ll be interesting to see which will be the first phone or tablet to get the Android 4.4 Kit Kat. As per the rumors, Google could release Nexus 5 before the end of this year to make it the first device running Android 4.4 Kit Kat.
As per the rumors Kit Kat 4.4 will offer bunch of new features for better performance and enhanced security of your device. One of the possible features could be “Guest Mode”, which we have already seen in LG G2. With Guest Mode, you can let anyone use your phone without worrying about your privacy, because you can set the limits on what kind of apps and data user can access in the Guest Mode. So, it will be a useful feature for sure. Android Kit Kat can also offer more customization options. We’ll have to wait to find out what new possibilities it offers to us.
